A South Dakota rodeo clown is one of five contract personnel nominated for the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.
Duane Reichert has spent 44 years in the PRCA, entertaining rodeo fans from coast to coast.
The New Underwood resident said it's an honor to be nominated, especially among the elite class of professionals.
Reichert entertains school children in "Back Stage with a Rodeo Clown," a program he developed to bring rodeo into classrooms, parks, festivals and fairs.
Crowds learn about rodeo and animal welfare. They also get to see Reichert transform from a cowboy into a barrel man, a clown who uses a barrel as a prop and protection against bulls.
