SD Receives Funds For Breast Cancer Screening
PIERRE, SD -

A South Dakota effort to provide mammograms to uninsured and underinsured women has received a $31,000 grant.

The funding comes from Susan G. Komen South Dakota. It goes to the state Department of Health's breast and cervical cancer screening program called "All Women Count!"

An official with the department says the money will go toward screening and diagnostic mammograms for women ages 30-49.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer after skin cancers among women in South Dakota. Nearly 550 women are estimated to be diagnosed with it every year. And 100 women die from it.

The Komen South Dakota chapter also provided funding to Custer Health, Faulkton Area Medical Center, Gundersen Medical Foundation and the John T. Vucurevich Cancer Care Institute.
