SD Primary Petitions Indicate Election Hot Spots
PIERRE, SD -

The primary petitions that have been filed in South Dakota are showing the hot spots for the upcoming election.

Primary petitions filed before Tuesday's deadline show legislative District 29 in west-central South Dakota had the most petitions filed.

State Sen. Larry Rhoden of Union Center is running for the U.S. Senate. Three Republicans have filed to take his place, including Rep. Gary Cammack. Five Republicans will run for the district's two House seats.

District 18 around Yankton will also be active this election season. Term-limited Sen. Jean Hunhoff and her brother-in-law Rep. Bernie Hunhoff will run for each other's seats with competition in both chambers.

Rep. Brock Greenfield a Republican will try to unseat Democratic Sen. Chuck Welke, while Democratic Rep. Scott Parsley will challenge sitting Republican Sen. Chuck Jones.
