SD Panel Seeks Penalty For Cheating Casino Players

SD Panel Seeks Penalty For Cheating Casino Players
PIERRE, SD -

The South Dakota Gaming Commission is seeking a change in state law that would allow it to impose penalties on cheating players who try to re-enter casinos in the Black Hills gambling town of Deadwood.

The commission already has authority to ban players from casinos for misconduct. But Commission Executive Director Larry Eliason says such bans have been difficult to enforce because there's no penalty for banned players who re-enter casinos.

A bill filed in the Legislature would make it a Class 1 misdemeanor carrying a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a $2,000 fine to enter a casino after being banned.

Eliason says the bill was prompted partly by a recent incident in New Jersey, where a player allegedly sneaked fake chips into a poker tournament.
