A man convicted in the 1990 slaying of a 9-year-old girl is set to die by lethal injection Tuesday in South Dakota's second execution this month.
The state Department of Corrections says 60-year-old Donald Moeller is scheduled be executed at approximately 10 p.m. Tuesday at the state penitentiary in Sioux Falls.
Authorities say Moeller kidnapped Becky O'Connell from a Sioux Falls convenience store, drove her to a secluded area near the Big Sioux River, then raped and killed her.
Moeller fought his fate for years but in July said he was ready to accept death.
Though executions in South Dakota are rare, Moeller's will be the second in a month. Eric Robert was put to death Oct. 15 for killing a South Dakota prison guard during a failed escape attempt.
