The 235th Military Police Company, South Dakota National Guard, returned to the United States yesterday.
The soldiers were on a nine month deployment in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Members of the Company, which is Rapid City and Sioux Falls based, arrived in Fort Bliss, Texas and will spend a week demobilizing before returning to South Dakota.
The mission of the 124 soldiers was to provide security for U.S. military personnel, installations and facilities. They were also guarding prisoners of war and civilian internees.
At this time, there are no details on exactly when the unit will return to South Dakota, nor has anything been confirmed on a welcome home ceremony. The National Guard plans to release those details once they have been finalized.
