A South Dakota man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for eluding Mitchell police in a February chase that exceeded 100 mph.
Officers called off the chase for safety reasons, but they later arrested 30-year-old Justin Jonathon Hofer of Ethan.
Hofer initially told authorities his vehicle had been stolen and he was not driving it during the chase, but he eventually admitted he was driving and the vehicle had not been stolen.
During a sentencing hearing, Circuit Judge Rodney Steele told Hofer his conduct has been dangerous and he will kill someone with such conduct.
Hofer pleaded guilty in July to aggravated eluding. His court case was delayed to give him time to undergo treatment for alcohol abuse.
