A federal grand jury has indicted a McLaughlin man on a charge of involuntary manslaughter for allegedly causing a fatal crash when he was driving while intoxicated.
Brendan Johnson, U.S. Attorney for South Dakota, says 32-year-old Jody Red Bird has pleaded not guilty to the charge. If Red Bird is convicted, he could face a penalty of up to eight years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Johnson says Red Bird is accused of driving while heavily intoxicated and causing an accident that killed a passenger in his vehicle.
