SD Man Facing Sex Crimes Has Trial Delayed Again
November 30, 2011, 10:41 AM
ABERDEEN, SD -
Trial for an Aberdeen man accused of rape, pedophilia and other crimes has been delayed for a second time.
Forty-two-year-old Richard Mette was to stand trial on 23 felony counts beginning Monday, but the trial has been rescheduled to late February.
The two delays in the case are tied to the amount of evidence - about 16,000 pages of documents - and to potential new evidence.
Judge Jon Flemmer ruled that Mette can be released on a personal recognizance bond but that he has to live with his mother in Sioux Falls and cannot have unsupervised contact with minors. Mette has been jailed for about a year.
Mette has pleaded not guilty. He could face life in prison if convicted.
