PIERRE, SD -
A 27-year-old Lower Brule man was arrested after a police chase that authorities say ended with the man jumping into the Missouri River.
The pursuit on U.S. Highway 83 and S.D. Highway 1806 happened near Fort Pierre on Thursday night after a citizen report of an erratic driver. The man led officers from the patrol and the Stanley County Sheriff's Office on a chase that ended when the man stopped his sport utility vehicle and went into the frigid water.
The man eventually returned on his own to shore, where he allegedly assaulted two deputies. He was arrested on numerous charges including drunken driving and aggravated assault.
