SD Lottery Expects Less Income This Year Than Last

SD Lottery Expects Less Income This Year Than Last
PIERRE, SD -

The South Dakota Lottery is anticipating a slight decrease in revenue this year.

Lottery director of sales Joe Willingham says lotto game sales are down 4.6 percent. He says it's not likely the lottery can surpass last year's numbers as last year was a record year.

Video lottery has leveled out, as has instant ticket sales.

Willingham says bad weather is bad for scratch games. He thinks popularity will increase with the arrival of spring weather.

Sales for most of the lotto games are down. The Mega Millions game, while not performing exactly as lottery officials hoped, has increased sales by nearly 80 percent.

The South Dakota Lottery Commission discussed the figures at a meeting Thursday.
