SD Lottery Commission Advances Gambling Study

SD Lottery Commission Advances Gambling Study
PIERRE, SD -

The South Dakota Lottery Commission has granted the state lottery unanimous approval to move forward on a study of problem gambling.

South Dakota Lottery Executive Director Norman Lingle says he will now complete his request for proposals. Lingle says he wants to draw together state officials and lottery opponents to help with the study.

Some commissioners say a study will not change opponents' minds. Others say it may reassure supporters. They agree that the study should be open and transparent to reduce future criticism.

Lingle on Thursday also went over refined goals for the lottery, including increasing maximum bets and rewards. The 2014 Legislature did not pass the bills championed by the lottery.

Lingle says state lottery officials will seek new strategies to accomplish all of their objectives.
