South Dakota farmers and ranchers led the nation in the production of three commodities in 2013, up from just one the year before.
The Agriculture Department says South Dakota producers once again led the U.S. in bison inventory. Oats production jumped from seventh to first, and South Dakota supplanted North Dakota as the nation's top sunflower producer for only the second time in recorded history.
South Dakota was second last year in lambs and proso millet, and third in flaxseed, honey and grain sorghum.
