A judge says a Rapid City woman who killed her aunt after a night of drinking more than two years ago must stay in prison until 2021.
Heidi Waloke was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 20 years in prison for the May 2011 stabbing death of 38-year-old Jada Jeunesse of Pine Ridge.
Circuit Judge Janine Kern on Friday denied Waloke's request to have her sentence reduced.
Waloke had claimed she acted in self-defense. Her attorney, Tom Diggins, says that the case sends a message that people are not allowed to defend themselves in their own homes.
