SD Governor Giving State Of State Speech Tuesday
PIERRE, SD - The 2012 session of the South Dakota Legislature opens Tuesday with Gov. Dennis Daugaard's state of the state address to a joint session of the House and Senate.

The speech is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

After he took office a year ago, the Republican governor worked with the Legislature to make deep spending cuts to balance the state budget.

But with tax collections rising this year, Daugaard last month proposed modest spending increases in education, health care and other programs. Lawmakers expect to spend much of this year's 35-day session debating those proposals to boost spending.

Daugaard also said recently he will make a number of proposals aimed at easing labor shortages in technical professions. will stream the governor's speech on our Live Coverage page once it begins.
