SD Gov. Daugaard Kicks Off Re-Election Campaign
Gov. Dennis Daugaard

SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Gov. Dennis Daugaard says he's made the tough choices during his first term leading South Dakota, taking a $127 million structural deficit and bringing the state budget into a surplus.

Daugaard on Tuesday asked voters for four more years at the helm, officially kicking off his re-election campaign with an announcement in Sioux Falls. He scheduled similar events later in the day in Rapid City and Pierre.

The Republican who previously spent eight years as Gov. Mike Rounds' lieutenant is being challenged by two Democrats - Susan Wismer and Joe Lowe.

Daugaard joked that the job has him wearing suits a little more than he'd like to, and underneath the suits he's just a farm kid from Dell Rapids.
