SD Farmers To Plant Less Corn, More Soybeans

SD Farmers To Plant Less Corn, More Soybeans
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

South Dakota farmers intend to plant a record soybean crop this year.

The Agriculture Department in its March 31 prospective plantings report pegs South Dakota's soybean crop at 4.8 million acres, up 4 percent from last year. Corn acreage is expected to decline 6 percent to 5.8 million acres.

That mirrors the national trend, with more farmers turning to soybeans because of a higher demand for the crop.

Other South Dakota crops are expected to see acreage drops this year. That includes hay, spring wheat, durum wheat, sunflowers, oats, sorghum, barley, dry beans and flaxseed.
