SD Committee Holds First Hearing To Review Development Office Audits

SD Committee Holds First Hearing To Review Development Office Audits
PIERRE, SD -

A South Dakota legislative committee held its first hearing Friday morning on the reviews conducted following the discovery of misconduct in the state economic development office.

Last fall, it was revealed former secretary Richard Benda inappropriately transferred a half million dollars to monitor loans for the bankrupt Northern Beef Plant.

Benda committed suicide in October.

The legislative operations and audit committee is now reviewing the audits and analysis that were conducted following the discovery of the misconduct.

The committee will issue a report by December 1.

We had a crew in Pierre Friday and will have updates on what was discussed later on KELOLAND News.
