A college in southeast South Dakota has established the first collegiate trap shooting club in the state.
Mount Marty College in Yankton expects shooting to begin in March.
The school says the co-ed team will practice and host local competitions at the Jim River Trap Range. Mount Marty's athletic director says the school will gather a 25-member team this month.
The school says it expects students to show great interest in the new club because hunting is one of South Dakota's largest industries.
The team's coach will be Rick Kalsow. He is a certified trap shooting coach by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and a certified shotgun coach by the National Rifle Association.
School officials say the club will promote safety in hunting.
