SD Camp Reviews Safety After Trail Ride Mishap
June 18, 2010, 10:17 AM
SIOUX FALLS, SD -
The president of the Sioux Falls Family YMCA says the organization is reviewing safety after seven girls and a counselor were injured while horseback riding at the Leif Ericson Day Camp.
Mike Gulick says one of the injured girls suffered serious injuries Thursday while others had scrapes and bruises. Gulick says a group of girls and staff members was embarking on a trail ride when one of the horses got spooked and the animals ran, dumping their riders. Gulick says the riders were wearing helmets.
Officials are investigating if stormy weather spooked the horses. Gulick says if that's the case, the YMCA will evaluate when trail rides should or should not be held.
