A South Dakota legislative board has approved two summer study committees on topics that will likely lead to proposed legislation during the 2015 session.
The Legislature's Executive Board unanimously voted Wednesday to authorize a study on future roads and bridges in the state.
Another study will consider laws on alcohol distribution within and beyond the state. Board members voted 10-3 for the measure. Supporters say the existing laws are archaic.
The Legislature has already authorized other studies for the summer. Those will explore child sexual abuse and economic development within tribes.
Republican Sen. Craig Tieszen of Rapid City said summer studies used to accomplish very little, but recent ones have resulted in good policy changes.
