The South Dakota Wildland Fire agency is hosting a training academy for wildland firefighters.
The state agency reports that 266 firefighters have registered to attend the academy, which is being held in Fort Pierre on March 21-24.
Officials say firefighters from volunteer fire departments and state and federal agencies will use the training to gain fire qualifications and reinforce safety practices.
The academy is being funded by a grant from the U.S. Interior Department. Six South Dakota volunteer fire departments have applied for funding to attend the academy.
