More than 200 artists from across the nation are displaying and selling their works at the Brookings Summer Arts Festival. South Dakota's premier juried art festival is goes from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Pioneer Park. The festival also includes gourmet and ethnic food, historical and antique booths plus a children's area. Admission is free. Pioneer Park is located on the west side of Brookings on U.S. Highway 14 and 6th Street.
The Great Cardboard Boat Race tests the engineering skills of competitors at the Kuehn Pool in Sioux Falls. Contestants can only use cardboard and duct tape to build their boats. You can watch the races starting at 9 a.m. Boats will be judged on creativity, sea worthiness and quickest to sink.
Hot Harley Nights includes live music by the Neo Johnsons from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and J & L Harley Davidson in Sioux Falls. A motorcycle parade at 6 p.m. goes from J & L to downtown Sioux Falls. Hot Harley Nights is a fundraiser for Make-A-Wish South Dakota.
Enjoy acoustic rock by the Toby Kane Band during Sounds at the Falls. The free concert gets underway at 7 p.m. at the historic Queen Bee Mill in Falls Park.
Enjoy a morning of free fishing at Family Park in Sioux Falls. Poles and bait are provided. A South Dakota fishing license is required for ages 16 and up. Hours are from 9 am to noon. Family park is located near West 12th Street and Tea-Ellis Road.
Tonight's free Moonlight Movie at Fawick Park in downtown Sioux Falls is The Avengers, rated PG-13. The movie begins at dusk. Popcorn, candy soda and water will be sold at the park.
Purchase fresh produce and many other items for sale at the Sioux Falls Farmers Market, across the street from Falls Park. The hours are from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The farmers market will be open every Saturday through October.
Vendors are also selling their produce and baked goods at the Sioux Empire Farmers Market at the 8th & Railroad Center on the East Bank of downtown Sioux Falls. Hours are from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Youth Art Show & Sale is free-to-view show featuring works by local artists 17 years and younger. The art show will be held each Saturday through August 2nd from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Downtown Riverfront Amphitheater between 6th & 8th Streets. While you're there, enjoy Discovery Mime Theater classics as part of the Saturdays on the Greenway Children's Series. The entertainment begins at 10 a.m.
Learn about Pipestone, Minnesota's paranormal past during guided ghost tours through the downtown area. The tour starts at 8 pm at the Pipestone County Museum. The cost is $5. The tours run each Saturday night through the Labor Day weekend.
