The Brookings Kite & Bike Festival has grown into a two-day event. The festival is Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. at the Fishback Soccer Park on South Medary Avenue and South 22nd Street. Families can bring their own kites to fly or watch professional kite demonstrations. You can also purchase kites at the festival. New this year are bike riding tours to Dakota Nature Park from 2-3 p.m. both days.
Paws to Celebrate is a wine and beer tasting fundraiser for the Sioux Falls Humane Society. It starts at 6 p.m. at Landscape Garden Center on South Minnesota Avenue in Sioux Falls and also includes food from some of the region's finest chefs and live music. The cost is $60.
Join Northern Plains Boxer Rescue for the Bikers & Boxers Poker Run. Registration costs $20 at J & L Harley Davidson in Sioux Falls from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The card drawing and prizes are at 6 p.m. First-prize for best hand is $1,000. All proceeds will go to help boxers in need of new homes.
Enjoy a morning of free fishing at Family Park in Sioux Falls. Poles and bait are provided. A South Dakota fishing license is required for ages 16 and up. Hours are from 9 a.m. to noon. Family park is located near West 12th Street and Tea-Ellis Road.
Tonight's free Moonlight Movie at Fawick Park in downtown Sioux Falls is The Lorax, rated PG. The movie begins at dusk. Popcorn, soda and water will be sold at the park.
Sounds at the Falls features jazz by Elisabeth Hunstad. The free concert begins at 7 p.m. at the historic Queen Bee Mill in Falls Park.
Purchase fresh produce and many other items for sale at the Sioux Falls Farmers Market, across the street from Falls Park. The hours are from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The farmers market will be open every Saturday through October.
