Matthew Anderson is currently on leave from his Naval Station in California. During his time off, he decided to help raise awareness for the Wounded Warrior Project by walking from Alcester to Sioux Falls over the span of three days while carrying an eighty pound cross on his shoulders.
Anderson started his walk today at the grave of his Grandfather Lawrence, who served in the navy during World War II. He will finish his walk New Year’s Eve at the Peace Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Through the whole trip his father Dave will follow behind him.
“I am looking forward, experience he's going to go through. He's seen a lot in his many years serving in the service, and I think this is a way for him to pay back to some of those who have given so very much to our country,” Dave said.
Anderson says that people can walk with him at any point, or sign the cross he is carrying.
