Howard Wood Field played host to the Presidents' Bowl Saturday, and Sunday the field was full of people once again for the start of the Sioux Falls Marathon and Half-Marathon.
Runners started arriving at Howard Wood Field shortly before 6 a.m. Sunday morning to start in their pre-race routines, whether that is a quick run around the track or some simple stretches.
6:45 a.m. is when the runners heard the gun and took off on their 26.2 mile journey across Sioux Falls.
One of the big concerns for runners and race volunteers was dealing with the heat and having enough water ready for those that needed it.
One of the first water stations started running low on water as the final chunk of runners passed through.
"It's an accomplishment. It takes a lot of training and a lot of dedication. You can't just sort of walk in and do it. It's the dedication and discipline that makes the difference," runner Kathy Pryor said.
The official winner of the Sioux Falls Marathon clocked in at a time of 2:29:06.
