Dairy Opens To Public For Day At The Farm

Dairy Opens To Public For Day At The Farm

A Brandon Farm has turned raising awareness about dairy farming in a yearly tradition. Tomorrow, Royalwood Dairy will be open to the public to celebrate National Dairy Month.

235 million gallons of milk were produced in South Dakota last year. At the farm tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., visitors will be able to see what it takes to bring milk from the farm to the fridge.

The Ode family, who run the farm, are providing milk, pancakes and ice cream. There will be various activities and displays for children tomorrow, including milking an animatronic cow.

Visitors can participate in guided tours of the dairy and learn more about dairy farming and how milk gets from the farm to the store. Doug Ode says the event will help people get a look at what a modern dairy farm is all about.

"We just feel people need the opportunity to come out and look around and see how things have advanced from when 50 years ago or so when their grandfather or when they growing up on a farm," Ode said.

The farm is located East of Sioux Falls on Highway 42 and just north on Highway 11. The event is free of charge.
