Rounds Announces Bid For 2014 U.S. Senate

November 29, 2012, 6:01 PM by Kelly Bartnick

Rounds Announces Bid For 2014 U.S. Senate
Mike Rounds

SIOUX FALLS, SD -

The speculation is over. On Thursday, former South Dakota Governor Mike Rounds officially announced his candidacy for Democratic South Dakota Senator Tim Johnson's seat in 2014.

Rounds made three separate stops across South Dakota announcing his candidacy.

His final one in Sioux Falls was packed with supporters applauding the Pierre Republican's announcement.

Rounds didn't mention Johnson's name or his policies during his speech. The Fischer Rounds CEO and popular two-term governor said he wants to go to Washington to concentrate on the nation's healthcare and fiscal crises.

He says he'll bring both his business and public service experience to the U.S. Senate's Halls.

“What I learned for ten years in the legislature and two years in the governor’s office is that you can keep your principles,” Rounds said.

Rounds acknowledged he is an underdog when it comes to financing the Senate Race, but that he intends to shake hands make the rounds across South Dakota during the next 23 months.
