A small group of students at Roosevelt High School are leaving the classroom and entering the World Wide Web to learn a foreign language.
Student Trey Townsend introduces himself in Chinese before he begins his Chinese II course. However, this is not just any class; he takes the online course in a Roosevelt High School storage closet.
Townsend says he has classmates all across the country and frankly does not even know where his teacher is exactly.
Along with Townsend, brother and sister Asia and Napoleon Martinez, take the online Chinese classes too. They say they hope to use the small room experience in a very big way.
"I really would like to travel the world. I'm really passionate about it and I hope that China or any of those eastern places is one of those places I get to go," Asia Martinez said.
"Looking into the future, I think that is going to be great because then I'll have the capabilities to try and work with business connection if I choose to go that route," Napoleon Martinez said.
Napoleon says it is an incredible experience and hopes to continue reaching to places far from Sioux Falls.
"I think it says a lot about the Sioux Falls School District because they provide us these experiences," Napoleon said.
Until then, Napoleon and his sister will speak the language they have learned to love.
