Rock Valley Looks To Finish Cleanup

June 28, 2014, 5:55 PM by Leland Steva

Rock Valley Looks To Finish Cleanup
ROCK VALLEY, IA -

Rock Valley was looking to wrap up the majority of the cleanup across the city after a devastating flood. The city was looking to volunteers to help with the efforts.

Rock Valley Mayor Kevin Van Otterloo says the city had more than enough volunteers today.

Residents’ homes were cleaned out by the volunteers, including taking out water heaters and taking off drywall. The volunteers came from all over, including 14 from Emmetsburg, Iowa. Lynn Schultes says the group wanted to help Rock Valley because of even after all the town has gone through, the community is still planning on hosting the opening of RAGBRAI, the big cross-state biking event.

"We know how big of an undertaking putting on RAGBRAI is for a community under a normal summer, but then to compound that with a devastating flood like what Rock Valley had, they're still willing to host RAGBRAI, and that says a lot about their character,” Schultes said.

With the help, Van Otterloo says the majority of the cleanup should be finished by today.
