Thousands of runners will be up early on Sunday to take part in the Sioux Falls Marathon. And if you are driving around the city, you may run into some closed roads due to the race.
Participants in the full marathon are scheduled to start running at 6:45 a.m. from Howard Wood Field. The half marathon starts at 7:30 a.m. and the Children's Miracle Network 5K begins at 8:30 a.m.
Sioux Falls Police will shut down roads along the race route Sunday morning. Phillips Avenue will be closed from 14th Street to East McClellan Street, East 9th Street will be closed from Phillips Avenue to 2nd Street, and East River Boulevard, which turns into 18th Street, will be closed from Cliff Avenue to Southeastern Avenue. The closures will last from 6:30 a.m. to around 12:30 p.m. Other stretches of road that are scheduled to be closed include Oxbow from 49th Street to 57th Street, I-229 Southbound off ramp at Cliff Avenue and 1-229 Northbound on ramp at Cliff Avenue.
Race organizers say the roads will be closed until the entire field of runners has passed.
