Retailers' Strategies Vary On Thanksgiving

Retailers' Strategies Vary On Thanksgiving
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Fewer Americans plan to shop Black Friday this year. The National Retail Federation says 147 million shoppers plan to hit the malls over the long weekend. That’s about 70 million fewer than last year. Experts are still predicting strong sales, citing more consumer confidence this year.

Sioux Falls lines grew steadily on Thanksgiving. Best Buy had a small group of tents as customers lined up to get dibs on the first chance for discounted high definition televisions and other electronics devices. Those waiting in line, such as Dave Havermann of Sioux Falls, noticed a smaller group of campers than previous years.

“My whole family calls me crazy. Everybody calls me crazy. Last year and the years prior to this, you had to get here really early. I didn't know what to expect. All I know is I wanted to be prepared,” Havermann said.

Sioux Falls Lewis Drug doors were open all day Thursday. Some of them even showed off Santa and his reindeer, which drew steady crowds of families. Lewis stores are typically open Thanksgiving for those who want to start the holiday season before the turkey is cold.
