Rest Stop Visitors Get Sioux Falls Pitch

Rest Stop Visitors Get Sioux Falls Pitch
VALLEY SPRINGS, SD -

It's a busy time for shopping and entertainment in Sioux Falls this weekend and the Convention and Visitor's Bureau wants travelers to know about it. The Bureau along with several other groups set up shop at the Valley Springs rest stop on I-90 Friday to greet out-of-towners.

With so much going on in Sioux Falls this weekend from great shows at JazzFest to shopping at Downtown Crazy Days, the Convention and Visitors Bureau is going the extra mile to tell travelers all about it.

"We've got a table set up out there with Kool Aid and cookies and we're saying, 'hey, welcome to South Dakota. Come in to Sioux Falls, we've got a free JazzFest going on, there's Crazy Days. You can shop, eat, do whatever you want," Teri Schmidt with the Convention and Visitors Bureau said.

Linda Isebrand is from Lake Crystal, MN. She's on her way to Rapid City to see her daughter. While the rest stop promotion isn't getting her to visit Sioux Falls today, it is leaving a good impression.

"Had some treats, visited with the nice people. It's a great way to promote your city. We don't spend a lot of time at Sioux Falls because we're always going to Rapid City but it's a beautiful city. It's a great place. It could be in Minnesota it's so nice," Isebrand said.

While the Sioux Falls Convention and Visitors Bureau is handing out a lot of good information today, they also gave out a lot of goodies.

"They gave us a cookie and chapstick and a little cup thing here, some sunflower seeds, post-it notes, some fliers, a couple things for the grandkids, a thing about coyotes, everybody's favorite animal. Lots of treasures and all free, how nice is that?" Isebrand said.

Hopefully nice enough to entice some travelers to check out Sioux Falls.

The Bureau was joined at the rest stop by officials from the Great Plains Zoo, Outdoor Campus and local hotels.
