Sioux Falls received a lot more ice and slush than snow. The heavy, wet mixture quickly turned to solid ice. The rough conditions on roads and sidewalks made ice melt and shovels hot commodities at a lot of stores.
At Lewis Drug on 41st Street and Minnesota Avenue, business began picking up on Friday night, as people tried to get ahead of the pending blizzard.
"Then on Saturday it really jumped up quite a bit. And yesterday I know the majority of people that were in were grabbing ice melt and other winter-related products like that," Lewis Drug Store Manager Bob Deaton said.
Different types of ice melt are available, and they vary in cost and chemical mixes. Typically, the more organic ice melt products cost a little more.
