Researcher Talks About Leaving Sanford, Going To Avera

An internationally-known researcher is settling into his new position at Avera Health, after leaving Sanford late last year.

Dr. Brian Leyland-Jones says he made the switch to Avera Health after speaking with the organization's researchers a few months ago - while he was committed to the Edith Sanford Breast Cancer Research program.

Leyland-Jones says he was impressed with Avera's faith-based commitment to health and wanted to keep his 11-member team in the Sioux Falls community.

Leyland-Jones oversees genome sequencing, which personalizes chemotherapy for breast cancer patients. He feels confident the field will find a cure within the next five to six years based on this level of research.

Sanford CEO Kelby Krabbenhoft says the health organization felt it was time to make a change. Hear from Leyland-Jones and the CEO Of Avera McKennan Hospital tonight on KELOLAND News.
