Celebrating New Years is a tradition for many around the world. For one refugee community, the tradition holds deep roots in their culture.
For the Bhutanese people today marks the beginning of a new year. Hundreds gather in Sioux Falls to celebrate the Lhochar holiday and enjoy and honor their cultural traditions.
All the friends, all the relatives, we gather together, we introduce - we greet each other. We play, dance, sing and we eat, Event Organizer Moni Gurung said.
This is the fifth year the Bhutanese community has held this New Years event in the U.S. Each celebration is held in a different states and this is its first year in South Dakota.
