RedHawks Top Canaries 10-4

FARGO, ND - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (42-55) did their damage early and late against Sioux Falls (32-66) on their way to a 10-4 win.  Scoring five runs in the first three frames and five more runs in the 8th, Fargo was carried by leadoff man Frank Salerno and his four base hits, including a homerun, a triple, two doubles and 4 RBI.

Chris Duffy tied the game at 1 with solo homer in the 2nd, his 15th of the season, but after three innings Fargo held a 5-1 edge.  That score wouldn't change until the 8th when the Canaries pulled to within a run, 5-4, thanks to RBI doubles from Chris Valencia and Sam Lind and another run driven in by Steven Branca.  That momentum would not last as Joe Testa, who relieved Joe Bircher to start the bottom of the 8th, allowed five runs in the bottom half and led to the final 10-4 score.

Brian Ernst (9-6) pitched into the 7th inning and allowed just one to earn the win for Fargo. Bircher (4-8) took the loss despite finishing his day strong, holding Fargo scoreless over his final four innings.  Overall, Bircher finished his day having allowed five runs in seven innings and did not walk a batter.

The series continues Sunday evening at 6 PM and the Canaries' starting pitcher will be a gametime decision by manager Steve Shirley.  Pregame coverage starts at 5:45 on AM 1230 and FM 98.1 KWSN.
