The Red Cross Black Hills Chapter along with Pennington County Emergency Management has set up a shelter for those motorists and displaced individuals at Central High School. Those going to the shelter need to enter from the east, using the double glass doors on Mt. Rushmore Road.
As of right now, there are 20,000 Rural Electric and 28,000 Black Hills Power customers without power.
Snowplows have made progress in clearing the major roads in Rapid City and the county. No travel is allowed until Sunday, October 6, at 6 a.m. as there is a considerable amount of debris and downed power lines.
