Officials say reconstruction of a causeway that connects the city of Pierre to LaFramboise Island on the Missouri River is complete.
Parts of the causeway were washed away last year by Missouri River flooding. The project took five months to complete and cost more than $2.8 million.
The causeway is a popular place for people to take walks, fish and observe the river. It also provides access to four city drinking water wells on LaFramboise Island.
Crews from the state Game, Fish and Parks Department plan to start cleanup next week of the 10 miles of main trails on LaFramboise Island.
The island and causeway are scheduled to open to the public on Oct 6.
