Thursday gave us one more mild day before another hit of arctic cold arrives this weekend. The warm days have been far and few between during December, a trend that will continue for the rest of the month.
Since 1990, Sioux Falls has averaged seven days when the city warms to at least 40 degrees. As long as we hit 40 on Thursday, it will only be the third time this month.
Even though the third 40 this month is below our average, it beats the years Sioux Falls didn't hit 40 at all, which has happened four times since 1990 in the years of 1996, 2000, 2007 and 2009.
Our warmest stretch of December weather since 1990 was when the city hit 63 degrees December 1 through 3 in 1998. All days set record highs, I don't see that happening anytime soon.
