Police say a suspected burglar has barricaded himself and a young child in a Rapid City home.
Rapid City Police spokeswoman Tarah Huepel says police believe the man is armed with a handgun. She says she's not sure of the child's age or relation to the suspect.
Huepel says the man is the main suspect in a burglary that police were responding to at a nearby house. She says the man fled police and ran into the house where he has barricaded himself. The house is in the Silver Street neighborhood.
Huepel says the Rapid City Police Department, the Pennington County Sheriff's Office and the South Dakota Highway Patrol are on scene.
Huepel says police have spoken with the man and are trying to get him to come out.
