July 2, 2014, 4:30 PM by Don Jorgensen

Rapid City Man Charged With Kidnapping
RAPID CITY, SD -

A hostage situation we first told you about Tuesday night in Rapid City ended peacefully after a six hour standoff with police.

Authorities say 32-year-old Raymond Cuny took a two-year-old boy hostage and barricaded himself in a home before surrendering without incident.

Police say Cuny took the young boy hostage Tuesday night and locked himself in a Rapid City home on Silver Street.

Police say the child's mother was able to flee, but the boy was not.

Authorities had on-and-off communication with the suspect during the standoff and evacuated several nearby houses.

A special response team forced entry into the home and rescued the child around 10:30 p.m.

No officers were injured, and the child was returned unharmed to his family.

The Pennington County Sheriff said Cuny had two active felony warrants prior to the incident.

Cuny is being held in the Pennington County jail without bond on charges of of first-degree kidnapping and two counts of second-degree burglary. No trial date has been set.
