Rapid City K9 Unit Getting Vest For Police Dog

February 24, 2014, 1:56 PM

Rapid City K9 Unit Getting Vest For Police Dog
RAPID CITY, SD -

A Rapid City police dog is being been outfitted with a custom-made bulletproof vest.

Xander has been with the department police since 2012 and didn't have a vest of his own.

His handler, Officer Jason LaHaie, applied for a vest through an organization called Vested Interest in K9s.

LaHaie says he knows that if anything happens, Xander is right there to help him. He says it's nice to be able to help the dog.

LaHaie says on certain occasions, police dogs are sent into high-risk situations first, before their human partners.

The vests cost $950.
