The Rapid City Council next week will consider settling a longstanding dispute with a now-defunct garbage-hauling company.
The council will consider accepting a $375,000 settlement with Fish Garbage Service.
The case began in December 2009, when the city accused the company of defrauding the city landfill by lying about the contents of trucks. Criminal charges against owners George and Clifford Fish eventually were dismissed, but the city has pursued a civil case.
The city has accumulated about $325,000 in legal fees so far in the civil case. City Attorney Joel Landeen says that if the council rejects a settlement Tuesday night, the case will continue in court or with further settlement negotiations.
