Rapid City is the next stop for an initiative in South Dakota to help parents if their children should ever go missing.
The South Dakota Child Identification Program will collect information for packages with a child's identifiers at the Youth and Family Services Kids Fair this weekend. The packages may include a child's photos, dental impressions, fingerprints, a DNA cheek swab or video interview.
That packet of information about each child will be given to his or her guardians to keep. There is no charge for the program. It is meant to aid law enforcement in recovering missing children.
The event will be Friday and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 12 to 4 p.m. at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.
