People are opening their hearts and wallets to help South Dakota ranchers, and a fund is much bigger than expected.
According to South Dakota Stock-growers Association President Bob Fortune, an overwhelming amount of donations has brought Rancher Relief Fund total to more than $3 million. The goal is to help those who are still recovering from massive livestock losses due to an October blizzard. Fortune said disaster relief volunteers have begun distributing the money to those who have applied for assistance.
"We were kind of blown away to think we'd get a million dollars to help people with immediate needs and stuff. But the funds just keep coming in," Fortune said.
