Moving the downtown Sioux Falls railroad switchyard is reaching another big milestone.
A seven year environmental impact study found there would be no major environmental impact if the tracks are removed. That allows city leaders to begin the appraisal process for the 10 acres of downtown land.
"Although the environmental review process has taken much longer than we ever expected, I think we can all say, for those of us that have been involved in this, that the final alternative is by far the best solutioin that we could have ever imagined," said Mike Cooper, Sioux Falls city planner.
The next step after the appraisal will be purchasing and designing any future construction projects.
