Beadle County has requested another county handle the prosecution of a former courthouse janitor and his son who are accused of sex crimes alleged to have taken place at the family's day care center.
Beadle County State's Attorney Mike Moore says that the case is now being handled in Brown County to avoid conflict of interest issues.
Authorities say Fred Sylaart is charged with two counts of sexual contact with a child. His 18-year-old son, Jordan Sylaart, is charged with two counts of first-degree rape.
They are free on personal recognizance bonds and will appear in court on October 23.
Moore says the alleged incidents involve girls under the age of 12 who attended a day care ran by Fred Sylaart's wife. The day care is currently closed.
