Prominent South Dakota Judge Max Gors has died. He was 69.
Gors died Thursday, the Isburg Funeral Chapel in Pierre said. They did not release his cause of death, but said he died in a Sioux Falls hospice.
Gors held several positions as judge and state's attorney. The station reports that South Dakota Supreme Court Chief Justice David Gilbertson says Gors was unique in that he served in all possible judicial positions: magistrate judge, circuit judge, presiding circuit judge and then as acting Supreme Court judge.
Gors was an assistant attorney general in South Dakota and Iowa before becoming judge. He retired from the bench in 2006.
Gors was elected Hughes County State's Attorney in 2012. He resigned last March citing health reasons.
