Project NICE turned out to be twice as nice in Sioux Falls last month.
Cleanup crews hauled away more than 1,200 tons of discarded items and debris left along curbsides in three neighborhoods.
That's more than twice the amount removed the last time the event was held in 2012. A lot of this year's haul included leftovers from the April 2013 ice storm.
"I think there were a lot of branches that were damaged that didn't go through last year and then just died off this year and then ended up on the project, which is a good thing because those branches need to go," Public Health Manager LuAnn Ford said.
Last year's Project NICE was cancelled by the ice storm.
